Free Window Cleaning Tools

Window CleaningWindow washing is looked at as a thankless job by most homeowners. Even though it doesn't have to be done that often, window cleaning can take a large chunk out of your day every few months. Buying tools for this job is also painful. Extension poles, squeegees, wash clothes, and replacement blades can be expensive. But there are tools that you can use to clean your windows that won't cost you anything (or at least very little).

- Since most people have vinegar in their homes to use for cooking, it is readily available for other types of jobs as well. Pour equal parts of water and vinegar into a bucket and mix together. This will create a fabulous window cleaner. It will also leave your windows streak free and cost you nothing.

- Newspaper can be used when drying off windows after using your vinegar and water mixture, or any cleaning product. Most people will buy a newspaper from time to time, so this is another trick that will cost your nothing and will leave your windows streak free.

- Use old clothing to polish the windows after cleaning them Why spend money on cloths when old clothing will do the trick? Try to use cotton clothing or socks, as this material will not scratch or leave fuzz on your windows.

- Attach old clothing to a broom handle when trying to reach taller windows. This will help you eliminate all those old cobwebs and dust bunnies as well.

- Many homes have lower windows that can be opened to clean the outside of them. Take advantage of this as it will save you time and money. Most people only wash this part of the window anyway.

- There is a system you should follow when washing your windows so that you do not streak the window. Always wipe the window going in the same pattern. This will prevent streaking. If your windows are dirty and dusty on the outside, use a hose first to get most of the dirt off of them. Let this dry, then go out there and wash the windows.
