from Sandy:
((BUYER BEWARE)) I recently had a representative, Tim, from Utah Cornerstones Electrical Services division out to install an electrical box for my hot tub. I am very dissatisfied with the service, or lack of service, I received. I was charged $238.00 for 4 half-hours of labor and a $3.40 charge for materials. Neither of which I received or was benefited by. Tim was a very friendly individual and I have nothing against him personally, my problem is that I was billed for four half-hours of work and in that time all I can see that was accomplished was a simple diagnostic test that stated I needed a larger box for my hot tub, and a sprinkler wire that was partially spliced and not even sealed. I briefly spoke with Tim on the phone and he had quoted me a price of $1,700.00 dollars to do the installation of the larger electrical box, stating parts would be $900.00 and the labor would be the rest. Had I purchased the parts on my own it would have been only $200. He first said that, “Well you won’t get the warranty if you buy the parts on my own,” and then agreed it would only be $200.00 if I bought them at Home Depot. He then stated that since I did not have any dry wall he could finish the project quickly, “in six hours or less”. I informed him that this was not something I wanted to do and instead instructed my girlfriend to have him splice the single sprinkler wire that had been cut in the backyard. We had provided all of the supplies for him to splice the wires together, including the crimper, butt splices, electrical tape, and liquid tape to ensure a waterproof seal. It took him over one hour to partially splice the wires together, and when I arrived home I found that the simple task of wire splicing had become a tedious and time consuming project. Had I spliced the wires on my own it would have taken only 15-20 minutes, and in fact when I was informed by Tim that he needed to get different heat-shrink tubing because he didn’t bring the right size, (and that he would have to go back to the shop to get the proper tubing and bill me for his travel of 50 minutes at an hourly rate of $120.00) this inefficacy was the last straw and I requested that Tim leave. The most atrocious part of the whole situation is that Tim billed me for six inches of heat-shrink tubing that he had used improperly, and was the wrong size. After Tim left my 22-year-old girlfriend had to finish the splicing project, and it only took her 15 minutes to splice the wire properly. It was her first attempt at wire splicing. I simply cannot see how such simple projects would take any well-trained electrician more than 30 minutes to complete. I was not home during the majority of the service, but my girlfriend who was home did not know what he had done other than look at the power box and splice half of a sprinkler wire. I originally selected this company because my girlfriend had used Cornerstones Electrical before at her work, and had nothing but a positive and professional experience. However, I cannot even express how angry and disappointed I am with the services that were not rendered.
